Villagers prepare for homes battle
Traffic problems and over-subscription of local schools are two of the issues raised by residents objecting to plans to build 80 houses on the edge of a Northamptonshire village.
Developers want to build the new homes on land backing onto Johns Road and Pilgrims Lane in Bugbrooke, significantly extending the current boundary of the village.
The plans fit within an established agreement to allow a total of 111 houses to be built in the village, but residents fear a development of such a size in the planned location could be detrimental to village life.
Particular concerns have been raised about increased traffic in the already busy Johns Road if the majority of houses, as indicated on the plans, were accessed from the road.
Councillor John Curtis (Ind, Heyfords and Bugbrooke) told the Chronicle & Echo he believed traffic issues would form the basis of most villagers' objections to the site.
He said: "The impact of these 80 houses will be the same as the impact of another 80 houses elsewhere in the village but the issue with the Johns Road site is the exit of traffic from there on the junction with Kislingbury Road has been a problem for quite a long time. And of course, located in that position, the impact of these 80 houses will be greater than if they were positioned somewhere else in the village where there are not so many houses close by."
Bob Clayton, headteacher of nearby Campion School, said the plans could have a "significant impact".
He said: "It is difficult to have a view regarding the potential impact but what I can say is the school's projected admissions numbers would suggest we will be slightly over-subscribed in future, therefore it is likely to have a significant impact on the school's capacity to accommodate future students."
