Villagers keep fingers crossed as floods start to subside

Flooding in Northamptonshire.

Flooding in Northamptonshire.

A flood warden in Kislingbury said he is hopeful homes will not be in danger after flood waters dropped half a metre over the weekend.

Dennis Tidmarsh said: “We have proper flood defences on teh south bank of the river so I’m quite confident we’re going to be okay.

“High Street still has a bit of water there but it’s passable by vehicle if people take care.

“The fire brigade were here on Sunday because the Cromwell pub was almost flooded but it got by okay.”

Mr Tidmarsh said the main problem had been standing water that can not flow into the swollen river in the normal way and was coming back up through the drains instead.
