Demolition work has begun on the former Chronicle & Echo building in the Upper Mounts.

Today (Tuesday) builders removed the Chronicle & Echo letters from the top of the building, followed by the horseman statue.

Aldi is looking to open a supermarket on the site.

Aldi is working in partnership with Phipps Northampton Brewery Company (NBC) to ensure the preservation of the horseman statue which featured on the front of the building.

The printing press at the former Chronicle & Echo offices in Upper Mounts closed in 2008 and the building was later vacated in the autumn of 2013

The Chronicle & Echo is now based in Victoria Street.
