A blast of whistles, klaxons and horns sounded out from the Guildhall in Northampton at noon today to mark International Day Against Homophobia.

The mayor of Northampton, Councillor John Caswell, gave a speech at the event alongside Matthew Toresen from the action group Fan and Chris Dolby of Northampton based group Out There.

Northampton Borough Council’s assistant cabinet member for community engagement, Councillor Anna King, (Con, Phippsville) said: “IDAHO is an important date in the calendar as it raises awareness about people who have suffered from hate or prejudice because of their sexuality.”
