Tweeting mystery revealed at school
Tweeting, re-tweeting and the mystery of hashtags will all be on the syllabus when what is believed to be Britain's first 'Twitter school' opens its doors in Northamptonshire this week.
Daventry based web designer, Ricky O'Neill, decided to launch his Twitter school after being inundated with people asking for advice on how to use new social networking sites, such as Twitter and Facebook.
He said: "A lot of people I work with and people I bump into have been asking me for advice on Facebook and Twitter.
"I used to just fill people in over a cup of coffee, but I thought it would be a good idea to set up a few working sessions and do it properly.
"And I think a lot of people want to get into it just to see what all the fuss is about."
Over the past year, Twitter in particular has leapt from a website used by a just few thousand people to attracting millions across the world.
Celebrities such as Stephen Fry have attracted millions of followers by 'tweeting' constant updates about their lives through the Twitter site.
Mr O'Neill said: "I get quite a bit of work myself by being involved with Twitter, so this course is designed to show people how it can help them.
"But it can really be as fun or as useful as people want it to be.
"The courses are designed for people who have either set up a Twitter account and not used it or are floundering a bit with the whole thing.
"We'll also be looking at the whole etiquette used on Twitter and how often people should tweet about things to keep their followers interested.
"But I'm not a guru or anything, I just want to pass on the benefits of my experience, my mistakes and my technical knowledge,"
The Twitter school is mainly aimed at business people and is designed to help them work out how to use both Twitter and Facebook to generate business.
It will look at ways to personalise Twitter accounts, explain Twitter etiquette and reveal what terms such as 'tweet', 're-tweet' and 'hashtag' mean.
The first class, which is due to be held in Towcester on Thursday has already sold out, but another is being planned for February.
