Tragic death of a cherished baby

A six-week-old baby died in her Northampton home as a result of sudden infant death syndrome.

Rihanna Hall was confirmed dead at Northampton General Hospital on October 18 last year after she was found by her mother, Suzanne, in her cot looking "pale and freezing cold".

Suzanne lived in Hanemill Court in Bellinge with her mother and on the day before her death, a community nurse had checked Rihanna's height, weight and the circumference of her head and concluded she was a healthy baby living in appropriate and clean conditions.

In a statement to the inquest held at Northampton General Hospital on Wednesday, Suzanne said she had put Rihanna into her cot next to her bed the night before her death and nothing gave her any cause for concern.

County coroner Anne Pember, recording a verdict of natural causes, said: "Rihanna was only six weeks old and was clearly loved and cherished.

"Her cause of death was due to natural causes."
