The Conservatives have romped to victory in a by-election for the Northampton Borough Council seat of New Duston.
The poll was called following the death late last year of the veteran Conservative councillor, Liz Tavener.
Last night's count saw Matthew Golby poll 1,072 votes, well ahead of former Labour borough councillor, Geoff Howes, with 322 votes and Independent candidate, David Huffadine-Smith, with 320.
The candidate for the Lib-Dems - the party which has overall control at the Guildhall - trailed in last with Marion Allen-Minney polling 307 votes.
Almost 6,400 people could have voted in the by-election, but turnout was just 32.2 per cent.
