Thousands expected at arcade game event

Northampton has been chosen to host the UK's biggest arcade games event.

More than 2,000 people from across Britain and Europe are expected travel to see the latest gizmos in the gaming world.

Insert Coin 2009 will be staged at Franklin's Gardens on July 18-19 and will showcase classic and contempary amusement arcade games from around the world.

The event will include a number of tournaments with representatives from Guinness World Records on hand to adjudicate on games such as Street Fighter IV and Tekken 6.

Major figures in the gaming world, including classic collectors and spares suppliers, will also be at the Rodber Suite where more than 250 machines will be on show at the exhibition.

A spokesman for Insert Coin 2009 said: "The show's floor is split into stalls selling a huge range of arcade merchandise, alongside unique exhibition stands with the best games on display.

"For the first time, the general public, who can purchase their tickets online, will get a chance to see a huge array of arcade hardware and software in one place. For most, this will be their first opportunity to get to grips with some of the most exciting video gaming hardware in the UK."

Organisers are also staging an after party on the first night of the event, featuring an awards ceremony for that day's tournament winners, a question and answer session on the amusement scene and all rounded off with a DJ session.

The event runs from 10am-8pm on both days and costs 15 for adults (23 for a weekend ticket) and 10 for juniors.
