Teenage girl was 'raped in street', court hears

A teenage girl was raped in Northampton town centre after becoming separated from her friends while on a night out, a court heard.

The 15-year-old handed over her phone number after she was allegedly raped just off Abington Square, Northampton.

Ismail Ahmed, aged 27, was arrested for rape when he later phoned 999 to tell police he was locked out of his house.

He was linked to the alleged attack when he followed up a call to police with another to her mobile phone while she was still being interviewed.

The teenager had been walking home after a night out on August 2 when she met Ahmed.

But as they neared Fiddlers public house in Wellingborough Road, he tried to kiss her.

Matthew Brookes-Baker, prosecuting, said: "She initially resisted by turning her face away. He said words to the effect of 'Just give me one kiss'. She decided if she did that he might leave her alone. She gave him a kiss and a hug."

A jury at Northampton Crown Court yesterday watched the girl's recorded interview in which she described being attacked at the junction of Palmerston and St Edmund's Road. Ahmed, of Elizabeth Walk, Northampton, who is originally from Somalia, denies rape.

It is alleged that after leading the girl behind the pub and twice raping her, she provided him with her mobile phone number after performing a sex act upon him.

She said: "I got scared and said I had to go. I'm not being racist because he is African and difficult to understand but he seemed a bit weird.

"I didn't feel comfortable walking with him and said I had to go because my cousin was waiting for me. He was trying to kiss me."

After she broke free, Ahmed allegedly ran after her and dragged her towards the back of the pub.

She added: "He had both his arms round me and was pulling me towards him, asking for my number. I was just hoping someone would walk past.

"I kept saying 'No' but he bent me over and raped me." Ahmed later called her number while she was being interviewed and police linked him to the attack via his call to say he was locked out.

The trial continues.
