Taxis get knife gang warning
A taxi driver suffered serious wounds to his face and hands after he was subjected to a terrifying knifepoint ordeal by a gang of three women sat in the back of his cab.
The victim was attacked in Birchfield Road, Northampton on the evening of Bank Holiday Monday and is being linked to a similar attack the following night.
Taxi companies are now being given advice by the police in relation to these offences and patrols will be stepped up in the Abington area of the town, where these robberies have taken place.
A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: "Three women booked a taxi and gave the driver instructions to go to Ashburnham Road. As the vehicle was being driven along Ashburnham Road, the woman sitting behind the driver placed a knife against his throat and demanded that he hand over money.
"The driver stopped the vehicle suddenly and managed to loosen the knife from his throat. The women made off from the vehicle without managing to steal anything. The taxi driver required hospital treatment for cuts to his face and hands."
Monday's attack has now been linked to a similar attack in Ashburnham Road, Northampton carried out between 9.50pm and 10pm on Tuesday.
All the women are white and aged in their late teens - one is skinny with light blond shoulder-length hair, one has black shoulder-length hair and the third woman is slim with black hair.
