Take the family into battle
There will be attractions for all the family at events across Northamptonshire over the bank holiday weekend.
Re-enactments of the Battle of Naseby, a trip on Thomas the Tank Engine and a display of working model trains are among the treats available.
The Sealed Knot battle re-enacters will stage the Battle of Naseby, seen by historians as one of the most important battles on British soil. Michael Molcher, of the Sealed Knot, said: "There will be up to 2,000 people in the field and we will have cavalry too. It's thrilling to watch; children enjoy it as much as adults."
Mr Molcher said other attractions included living history displays, guided tours and talks, a real ale tent and historical information about soldiers.
It takes place at Kelmarsh Hall today, tomorrow and Monday, with tickets available in advance and on the day.
n Meanwhile, Thomas the Tank Engine and the Fat Controller will be at the Northampton and Lamport Railway on all three days. Colin Haddon, from the railway, said: "We have done this for a few years and it always proves popular. Once the children see an image of Thomas they drag their parents and grandparents down and they can't get away."
A Thomas souvenir shop will be open at the railway and the first train leaves at 10.45am on all three days.
n Additional days out this weekend include a family fun day at Abington Park Museum as part of the Venezia! Festival and a display of working model trains from the Bassett-Lowke Society. They will be exhibited at 78 Derngate, the original home of the model-maker.
n Formula One fans will also be in for a treat with Silverstone having a visitor open weekend today and tomorrow.
