Sywell hosts aviation rally
Aviation fans are expected to descend on Sywell this weekend for the first national light aircraft association rally in around 40 years.
Throughout the 1970s the LAA, then the Popular Flying Association (PFA), held an annual rally at Sywell, but this has not happened since 1978 when the rally moved to Cranfield airfield.
However, from today until Sunday around 700 aircrafts are expected to visit Sywell Aerodrome from all corners of the UK, and some from Europe, for a three day long event.
Michael Bletsoe-Brown, managing director of Sywell Aerodrome, said: "This will be the biggest collection of light aircraft in the UK for four years. Every type and model will be represented."
Entry to the event is 10 for adults and 2.50 for children. Food and drinks will be available on site and parking is free.
Tonight and on Saturday night entertainment in Hangar One will be open free of charge.
Friday night from 7.30pm the Bavarian Stompers band and a jazz band will perform. On Saturday evening from 7.30pm the band The Rip Cords will follow the LAA awards.
