Suspected burglary gang members arrested in dawn raids
More than 100 officers from Northamptonshire Police have today swooped on a suspected gang of burglars in the culmination of a year-long operation.
Arrest warrants were issued for 15 members of the group, some aged as young as 16, who were believed to be responsible for the majority of house burglaries in Daventry and the surrounding villages.
Detective Inspector Richard Tompkins said the force had been gathering intelligence on the suspects for "many, many months" and added charges were likely to be brought against them today.
The raids, which were launched in Daventry at 6am today, involved almost one in 10 officers from the entire force and saw the suspects rounded up into a cell van and transported to Campbell Square Police Station in Northampton, where the custody suite had been cleared to allow for questioning.
The officers executed 15 warrants at the same time at separate addresses, mainly in Daventry, but a small number of arrests took place in Rugby and Bedford.
Supt Pete Windridge, said: "We executed 15 warrants under the Theft Act early this morning as a result of which 15 people are currently in custody at Campbell Square police station in Northampton.
"These arrests are the result of the culmination of a lengthy investigation by officers tackling crime in the Daventry area and we hope people living in the town will see the benefit of these arrests."
