Steelbacks captain Alex Wakely is auctioning his T20 winners’ medal to raise money for charity.

The batsman has already raised £1,300 this week from auctioning off a 20/20 finals day top, sign pro40 cricket bats, David Willey’s cap and warm-up T-shirt and cricket bat.

He has now put his prized medal, which he won only last August, in a bid to raise more money for Help for Heroes.

Wakely said he hopes to raise £1,500 for the medal.

He said: “I rang the company that made the medals and they have agreed to give me another one.

“The auction started off as something small I was doing on Twitter, but I’ve had loads of people bidding and it’s escalated out of nowhere.”

Bids for the 20/20 medal can be made by contacting Wakely on Twitter via @AlexWakely1 until 6pm on Monday.

He said: “After the successful Help for Heroes vs. Northants Disability match held here at the County Ground last season and a humbling experience visiting the Help for Heroes centre at Tedworth House with ‘Midders’, I just thought it would be a good idea to keep fundraising for Help For Heroes.

“There will be a couple of surprises thrown in so keep your eyes on my Twitter over the next week.”

Wakely’s other, daily, auctions featurimg other items will start each morning and the highest bidder by 6pm each day will win.
