Families descended on Delapre Park today to lap up some sunshine and ride the minature steam engines.

The Northampton Society of Model Engineers’ opened their track, situated near the London Road entrance to the park, for the first time this year.

And many a child accompanied their parents on the tiny engines deaprting from the mock station platforms, while delighted spectators watched and waved from a packed bridge.

The trains are pulled by steam, petrol or battery powered model locomotives.

Most of the model locomotives are based on modern and historic full-size locomotives.

Children’s parties can be arranged with the added bonus of the train rides.
