Staff survey reveals half of County Council employees are proud of the authority
A survey of workers at Northamptonshire County Council has revealed an increased number are proud to work for the authority - but the figure still stands at just 52 per cent.
In a survey carried out by the council in 2008, only 45 per cent of the 2,596 workers who took part said they were proud to work for the council. The most recent survey was compiled two months before the council announced a review of staff salaries.
The authority's chief executive, Paul Blantern, said he was pleased to see the figure increase to 52 per cent in this year's survey.
He said: "We are starting to see a steep change in our performance for our customers. We are far from complacent, especially given the changes ahead."
The 2010 survey saw 2,685 council workers express opinions on the authority, which provides services such as schools, libraries and road maintenance.
The report's publication comes just over a month after many council staff were angered to find out the results of a pay review, which revealed more than 4,000 members of council staff would face pay cuts.
But the employee survey revealed 86 per cent of the staff who took part understood change was necessary while 74 per cent believed they were treated with fairness and respect.
It also revealed 69 per cent of staff were either fairly satisfied or very satisfied with their jobs while 77 per cent felt they were motivated to do their best and 69 per cent felt their jobs made good use of their skills.
When asked about their attitude towards the council, 42 per cent said they would talk highly of the authority, an increase from 34 per cent in 2008, and just 21 per cent of those who replied to the survey said they would be openly critical, compared to 28 per cent in 2008.
