Speaker stolen from outside Northampton shop

Brazen thieves stole a £600 speaker system from outside a Northampton shop this afternoon.

The Beolit 12 speaker was taken at 1pm from outside the Bang & Olufsen shop at the corner of Derngate and Castilian Street, where it was being used as a demonstration model.

Co-owner Jackie Butters said: “It was very cheeky as we were just outside the shop ourselves as it happened.

“It was secured by quite a heavy duty chain but that’s gone too.

“I saw someone on a bike across the road shortly before it happened who had been playing with it earlier. It’s only about 12 inches across so someone could easily have taken it by themselves.”

The speaker system is designed play music via iPhones or iPads without being physically connected to the music players. Potential customers have been able to test the speakers using their own music since Mrs Butters started putting it outside the shop door in September.

She said: “Police are checking CCTV footage from cameras fixed to the Royal & Derngate theatre building as well as shops round here.”
