Spam emails sent claiming Northampton MP had been mugged in Spain after hack attack
AN email account belonging to Northampton North’s MP, Michael Ellis, has been attacked by computer hackers.
The email address ellis2win@googlemail.com was hacked into by fraudsters early on Tuesday morning.
The gang sent out an email, supposedly from the MP, claiming that he had been mugged during a trip to Spain and needed money to get home.
Speaking from Westminster on Tuesday morning, the MP said he was trying desperately to get back into the account.
He said: “I’m really worried about it. We had a really complicated password on that account and we go into it every day to check it, so I don’t know how they’ve got into it.”
The politician asked anyone who received the email not to respond to it.
Mr Ellis has also had his Twitter account hacked.

Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at 02:31 PMI don’t believe that the person or persons who hacked it will be on much of an earner? I was told that a meeting was held this morning consisting of unemployed the disabled and public sector workers. Before it was clear that it was an attacked computer. The chair of the meeting sent the following email to Mr Ellis. Dear Michael At our meeting this morning a member put a motion to the effect – This meeting is very sorry to hear of the predicament you find yourself in, and we sent £500 to assist you at this time of need. I write to inform you that as it failed to get seconded the motion failed

Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at 12:10 PMnice to see that he's not using tax payers money to keep a domain and email address and opts for a free service provided by google. I suspect though that lapse security on his behalf has enabled this to happen (keyword loggers installed after visiting websites etc).

Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at 11:29 AMFULL TEXT OF THE EMAIL I really hope this gets to you in time, I was involved in a robbery during my trip to Barcelona,Spain. I was mugged, all my belongings including mobile phone and credit card were all stolen.I asked my bank to cancel my cards and place hold on my account to avoid unauthorized access. I need your help flying back home. Am cash strapped at the moment. I've made contact with my bank but the best they could do was to send me a new card in the mail which will take 3-5 working days to arrive here. I need you to lend me some money to sort my self out of this predicament, i will pay back once i make it out of Spain. Western union is the fastest option to wire funds to me. Let me know if you need my details(Full nameslocation) to effect a transfer. You can reach me via email. Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at 11:29 AMThese happen all the time, not at all rare. I've had many, the most recent one purporting to come from a cousin of mine just a couple of weeks ago. They nearly always are direct from your friend to say they have been robbed at gunpoint in a car park in Madrid. Just delete them.
