Six-figure salary for man chosen for WNDC top job
A former property consultant has been given the six-figure salary job of heading the West Northamptonshire Development Corporation (WNDC).
Peter Mawson, who has previously been chief executive of property consultants Donaldson LLP and operation director of real estate advisors DTZ Holdings, will start work with the Northamptonshire development organisation in August.
He said: "I hope to make a real contribution to the immense challenge of delivering significant growth in a sustainable, sensitive manner, and so allow Northampton, Daventry and Towcester to realise their full potential."
The WNDC was set up to push forward the development of more than 40,000 houses across Northampton, Daventry and Towcester by 2021.
The group's former chief executive, town planner Mike Hayes, left his 117,000-a-year post in September, three months after being awarded a CBE for his services to local government and the voluntary sector.
As well as his experience in real estate and property, Mr Mawson was also a principal planner and chief development surveyor with the Telford Development Corporation during the 1980s.
He is also a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and the Royal Town Planning Institute.
The WNDC's chairman, John Markham, said: "We've been determined to find the right person for what is a challenging and pivotal position – not just for WNDC, but also for the sub-region of west Northamptonshire as it moves into an exciting period of growth and regeneration.
"I believe Peter has the skills, expertise and drive that will make a positive difference to the people living in Northampton, Daventry and Towcester in the future."
The exact amount which will be paid to the new chief has not been revealed, but the organisation has confirmed it will be a "competitive six figure package".
