Shopping centre security guards sacked after CCTV footage

Three security guards at one of Northampton's main shopping centres have been sacked after CCTV images captured them behaving inappropriately while off duty.

The three male guards were dismissed from their posts at the Weston Favell Shopping Centre after a complaint was lodged about their behaviour.

The Chronicle & Echo understands CCTV images show the guards, employed by Leicester-based security agency Central and Shires, returning to the centre after a night out drinking about 11pm on Saturday, March 14.

An investigation was immediately launched by the centre management.

Centre manager Kevin Legg said: "We can confirm that an incident took place on the evening of March 14 at the shopping centre, involving three security guards employed by Central and Shires.

"These three guards were off duty when this incident took place."

The men now face losing their licences from the Security Industry Authority, the organisation responsible for regulating the industry, set out in the Private Security Industry Act 2001.

Harjit Sangha, the HR manager for Central and Shires, said: "As a result of the incident, there followed a full investigation by Central and Shires and the members of staff involved no longer work for the company."
