Sex-in-street ban for 'lewd' addict
A prostitute whose lewd behaviour plagued an area of Northampton has been given a criminal ASBO to protect the public.
Vice girl Dawnette Codner was made the subject of the order for a minimum of five years by Northampton Magistrates' Court after working outside the agreed times of the town's managed red light district.
The 44-year-old drug addict, who has more than 100 previous convictions, is now banned from loitering in a street or public place for the purpose of prostitution.
She is also banned from committing lewd acts in a public place and prevented from entering part of the Castle ward, including the managed prostitute zone in the Grafton Industrial Estate.
Prosecutor Michael Shrimpton, representing Northampton Borough Council, which applied for the order, said: "This is an order that deals with the proper interests of the residents and at the same time the defendant."
The order, also known as a CRASBO – an anti-social behaviour order brought after a criminal conviction – was applied for on the back of Codner pleading guilty to five offences, including two counts of being a common prostitute, possessing cocaine, failing to attend a follow-up drugs test and theft.
Deirdre Newham, chairman of the bench, said: "If you break this order you will probably appear in the crown court and you will be sent to prison for a maximum of five years.
"We are making it to protect the relevant persons from your anti-social acts."
Codner, of Alexander Court, Weston Favell, was bailed after being arrested on an unrelated matter to attend a drugs assessment, which is needed for her to be sentenced next month on the five charges.
