Detectives investigating the death of two students at a Northampton nightclub have spoken to five key witnesses.

Nabila Nanfuka and Laurene Danielle Jackson, both from London, died following a crush of students as they left the now-closed Lava and Ignite nightclub in October last year.

Detective Inspector Louise Hemingway said today that, after trawling through the evidence and subsequent appeals, they have made some progress.

She said: “As a result of the appeal for witnesses in October 2012 we have positively identified five of the 28 key witnesses in the poster.

“We have spoken with each of them directly and they have provided information which will assist the investigation.”

She added: “In addition, we have received possible names for a further three key witnesses and we continue to work towards a positive identification of those three individuals.

“We would like to thank the media, universities, musicians and DJs on Twitter and members of the public for their support and help in publicising and responding to the appeal which has had a positive impact upon the progression of our investigation.

“We hope to conclude our investigation in the near future, however it remains open at this time and any further information that would assist in identifying other witnesses will continue to be much appreciated.”
