Second drive ban for soldier after being caught over the limit
A soldier preparing to go to Afghanistan has been banned from driving for the second time.
Daniel Woolliscroft, aged 21, admitted drink-driving after police stopped him near Harlestone Road, Northampton on July 8.
Northampton Magistrates' Court heard yesterday how Woolliscroft believed he was able to legally drive after waiting hours between drinking 'a few pints' and driving home his two friends.
But the British Army soldier was found to have 51 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, when the limit is 35mcg.
Caroline McGann, defending, said: "My client is about to embark to Germany and in the very near future has a view to fight for his country in Afghanistan.
"He believed he was in a fit state to drive, that is the reason why he was driving.
"It was actually the case that he was over the legal limit but it was the lower level."
Woolliscroft, of Shale End, Duston, was convicted of a similar drink-driving offence in May 2007.
He has been in the army for nearly a year and will soon be posted to Germany until April, when he is expected to be deployed to Afghanistan
He was banned for three years, with a 300 fine and ordered to pay 85 costs and a 15 victim surcharge.
