Reality TV star praises apprentices

The Apprentice star Kristina Grimes has launched National Apprenticeship Week, with a visit to Northampton.

Kristina, runner-up in the hit BBC TV show, visited the offices of haulage and freight firm Mainland Group to speak to its apprentices.

She said: "There's a culture at the moment in which everybody goes to university. There are so many people that go, but unless it's very career-specialised I think there's an even better opportunity for people to learn skills at companies like this.

"It's very practical; integrating with people, understanding business. For some people it's the better route to take."

Beth Colbert, an 18-year-old apprentice, has been working for Mainland Group for almost eight months. She said: "I was attracted here because it offered training on the job."
