Quo drummer Jeff rocks up to schools

PUPILS turned rockers for the afternoon at a Corby school when former Status Quo drummer Jeff Rich paid a visit.

He spent 90 minutes with youngsters at Beanfield Primary School and showed them his drum collection before letting them have a bash.

Jeff played with the Quo from 1986 to 2000 and for the past six years he has performed masterclasses in more than 5,000 junior and senior schools throughout the country and as far afield as the Falkland Islands.

He was also due to visit Lodge Park Technology College, Shetland Way, and Our Lady School in Occupation Road as part of his Corby visit.

Jeff said the school tours started when his children wanted to learn drumming and their teacher asked if he could come to school to give a session.

Other schools heard about it and the workshops have been going ever since.

He said: “I love doing this because it inspires youngsters.

I still have a rhythm and blues band.

“I keep in contact with the Quo. I was just fed up with touring. I wanted to spend more time with the kids.”

Headteacher at Beanfield School Carolyn Wilson,, said: “We were absolutely thrilled to have him here. The children have been really excited at having a famous person come to their school.”
