A man had to be rescued from the top of a homeless centre in Northampton today after he climbed the facade of the building in an apparent protest.
The elderly man, who was clutching a beer can as he sat at the top of Oasis House, in Bailiff Street, The Mounts, had to be rescued by firefighters.
The road was closed after the man climbed the front of the building at around 1pm.
Onlookers then began gathering in front of the building, some shouting messages of support, as police officers issued instructions to the man using a loud speaker.
He was back on the ground by 2pm.
Friends who gathered to watch the incident said the man, named locally as “Eddie”, was homeless and had been protesting because his benefits had not been paid for 12 weeks.
