Prostitute locked up for 20 weeks
A prostitute from Northampton has been jailed for 20 weeks after she pleaded guilty to breaching an anti -social behaviour order banning her from soliciting in a certain area of the town three times in two months.
Lisa Jennings, aged 28, of Poole Street, Northampton town centre, appeared at Northampton Magistrates' Court yesterday after she pleaded guilty to three breaches of an ASBO imposed in September last year, assaulting a constable and breaching three separate community orders.
The court heard that Jennings was seen by two Police Community Support Officers in Little Cross Street on June 28 this year despite the fact she was banned from the Semilong area under the terms of an ASBO.
Tim Akers, prosecuting, said she was then arrested again in Harding Terrace, Semilong, on July 13 after she "purposefully" breached the order in a bid to get help for her alcohol addiction.
Mr Akers said Jennings was then found hiding in a cupboard underneath some towels at an address in Harding Terrace by two police officers on August 11.
The prosecuter said: "Ms Jennings was told to come out but she became aggressive. One of the police officers tried to take hold of the can of beer she had in her hand and she then spat beer on to his left arm and the left hand side of his body."
Jennings was also charged with failing to keep an appointment with her probation officer on June 28, relating to three separate community orders, one imposed on May 20, one on November 18 and one on September 2.
The previous community orders had been imposed due to previous breaches of an ASBO, including possession of heroin, assaulting a police officer and theft.
John Weaver, defending, said none of the recent breaches related to the "main purpose" of the ASBO which was to prevent her loitering and soliciting in Northampton.
Mr Weaver said Jennings had "wanted" to get arrested on July 13 because she knew she needed help to deal with her alcoholism.
But, having spent three weeks in prison, she had now begun to deal with her drink problem and this would lead to her offending rate dropping.
Magistrates sentenced Jennings to 20 weeks in custody, minus the 21 days she had already served.
