Probably the best-looking brewery in the world...Carlsberg lands 'iconic' heritage status

The Carlsberg brewery in Northampton is one of several examples of "iconic" buildings in the county to be featured in a collection of contemporary architecture created across the East Midlands in the past 50 years.

The Royal Institute of British Architects' 'Fifty Buildings, 50 years', celebrates "outstanding" modern buildings from 1960 to the present day, selected for their exemplary design and contribution to the region's identity.

Although the final content of the collection, due to form a touring exhibition, will not be unveiled until next month, it has been revealed the Carlsberg brewery is among the top buildings selected from Northamptonshire, which include leading examples of commercial, industrial and academic architecture.

The exhibition, which will visit Northamptonshire and other counties in the region, will give members of the public the chance to vote for their favourite building.

Julian Owen, chairman of the Royal Institute of British Architects in the East Midlands, said: "We are confident visitors will be fascinated at the variety of projects chosen to represent Northamptonshire.

"The exhibition will provide an opportunity for the public to appreciate the impact contemporary architecture has made over the past 50 years."
