Prescriptions delivered to patient's door
An online pharmacy run by GPs which delivers prescriptions free to patients' doors is to be officially launched in Northampton.
Northamptonshire Healthcare Alliance Pharmacy was set up by a consortium of family doctors and pharmacists to deliver prescription and over-the-counter drugs.
Pharmacist Kelvin Acford who manages the dispensary, said he believed people would be impressed with the new convenience on offer.
He said: "We know the service will appeal to a wide range of people, it is a perfect alternative for those who have real difficulty in getting to their local chemist or surgery to pick up their prescriptions.
"And it's also a terrific option for busy working people who find it increasingly awkward to collect their prescriptions during normal opening hours."
NHA Pharmacy is a consortium of local pharmacists and Nene Healthcare Ltd which represents 230 county GPs.
Their system could mean that patients no longer have to wait at their surgery or pharmacy or take time off work to collect a prescription.
NHA, based at Northampton Science Park, in Moulton arranges delivery to a place of their choice.
Although people still have to pay for the medicines as they would do normally, the delivery service is free
Mr Acford said he believed patients would find the service particularly useful during winter and the busy Christmas period.
He said "We can manage people's repeat prescriptions on their behalf, so they no longer have to worry about running out or receiving their new prescriptions on time.
"We will contact them seven days before their prescription is due for renewal to find out whether their requirements have changed.
"It really is as straight forward as that."
