Post office for sale after three-year fight

The subpostmasters of Great Brington Post Office have decided to sell up following a fruitless three-year fight to keep it open.

Michelle Lake, one of the owners of the Post Office, said: "For the past three years we've had to fight for our existence and it's just got the better of us.

"We've been thinking about this for quite some time and it's a difficult decision to make as it is not only our business but our beautiful family home too. We are proud of what we have done here, which has preserved the Post Office in Brington but we've given it all we can."

The Post Office, in Main Street, was one of the few rural offices which was saved under the government's Network Change programme in 2007, after Ms Lake fought to keep it open.

It is the only Post Office left in the surrounding villages of Little Brington, Harlestone, East Haddon and Harpole.

Ms Lake added: "We just need to find the right people to take the business forward now."

Anyone interested in purchasing the lease can call Northampton 770228.
