Porsche and Audi stolen from Moulton

Professional thieves who target homes specifically for the cars parked outside are striking at a rate of once every two days in Northamptonshire.

In the month since August 11, a total of 17 car key burglaries have been reported to police after the thieves have broken into houses simply to find the keys to new or high-spec cars in the driveway.

In the latest incident, in Moulton, a Porsche 911 and an Audi RS8 worth tens of thousands of pounds were stolen from outside a home in the early hours of yesterday.

Det Insp Jeff Winfield, of the Northamptonshire West burglary policing team, said car owners should be more careful about leaving their keys out in places they can easily be found.

But he added four arrests this week represented an important breakthrough in cutting car thefts, and the number of reports was starting to fall.
