Volunteer poppy collectors have received £107,000 in donations from people in Northampton.
The Royal British Legion have revealed the current total raised by the Northampton Poppy Appeal 2013-2014 currently stands at £107,220.31.
Dean Griffin, Northampton Poppy Appeal organiser, said: “I would like to thank the distributors, the team leaders, the collectors, the counting team and admin staff and even more so the members of the public who donated their hard-earned money.
“It is down to your sheer determination and hard work that we are able to collect such a vast amount of money, so on behalf of our veterans, soldiers, families and everyone at the Royal British Legion I would like to say thank you.”
On one of the donations, somebody had written on the back of a £5 the words ‘Thank you for all the money I’ve been given through my life! Thank You’.
The British Legion hold many events throughout the year, including an Honour Walk in Abington Park in June which raised more than £1,000.
More events planned for next year will be posted on the Facebook page Northampton Poppy Appeal and at: www.northamptonpoppyappeal.co.uk
