Political praise for improving school
The shadow further education minister has praised a Northampton school after visiting the town to see the standard of education in the area.
John Hayes, who is the Conservative party's shadow minister for lifelong learning, further and higher education, toured both Duston School and Northampton College during his visit to the town.
He said: "During the visit to Duston, I saw how it's been really turned around to a school that's really thriving.
"I think that's down to the community and the quality of leadership at the school.
"It's great news for that part of town and I think what we need to do now is look at how those improvement methods can be exported to other schools that are facing challenges."
During his tour of the town, Mr Hayes was joined by Northampton South's Conservative MP, Brian Binley.
He said: "I'm delighted with the improvements that have been made at Duston School, because I know how hard they've worked."
The two MPs also discussed the problem of rising unemployment numbers in the area and talked about the need to improve training for young people, particularly in traditional skills, such as shoe making.
