Police stop 71 vehicles in Operation Rogue Traders
Half of the vehicles stopped by police officers during an operation to target rogue traders were flagged up as possibly not having a current road tax disc.
Working in partnership with the Vehicle Operators & Services Agency (VOSA), Trading Standards, HM Revenue & Customs, DVLA, Environment Agency, Northampton Borough Council Benefit Fraud Investigation and HM Court Services, officers stopped 71 vehicles on Monday.
The day of action, which was part of Operation Rogue Traders, took place at two checkpoints, in Ransome Road, in the morning and at the Sixfields Stadium car park in the afternoon.
As a result of the operation, one person was arrested for assaults and one vehicle was seized for road tax offences, Trading Standards officers issued 21 notices to traders relating to trading legislation and Benefit Fraud Investigation officers identified four people claiming benefits incorrectly.
Two fixed penalty notices were issued for seatbelt offences and one penalty notice was issued to a driver for using a mobile phone. Three drivers were reported for driving licence offences.
