Police claim success in curbing fast drivers
A POLICE team will tackle speeding on a Kettering street after a successful operation on three other roads in the town.
Under their last set of policing priorities, Northamptonshire Police's Kettering South West safer community team were asked by residents to crackdown on speeding vehicles in Argyll Street, The Oval and Garfield Street.
After a periodical review of the team's priorities, residents have now opted for speeding to be tackled in Bryant Road.
The streets which were previously identified as targets no longer feature in the team's priorities.
When the team investigated the speeding issue in the three streets it found that inappropriate speed, where drivers are within the limit but perhaps driving too fast on a narrow street or in busy circumstances, was the main issue.
Sgt Paul Wade, leader of the Kettering South West safer community team, said: "We did some work with a hand-held speed monitoring device in Argyll Street, Garfield Street and The Oval and found the main issue was with inappropriate speed.
"We did this work because residents told us it was an issue they wanted tackled and, similarly, residents have now said that speeding is a priority in Bryant Road, so we will be going out with the hand-held speed monitoring device.
"We will also be putting posters up in prominent places, along with signs warning people about the dangers of speeding.
"The community can help us by reporting instances of speeding to us by calling 08453 700700."
"While looking at speeding problems in Argyll Street, The Oval and Garfield Street, the team put up high visibility speed limit signs and anti-speeding notices in the area for a month to remind people to watch their speed.
The team, which covers the St Peter's, St Michael's and Wicksteed council wards, now has a new list of priorities after consulting residents.
They include tackling parking problems and vandalism in The Grove and at Kettering General Hospital and rowdy and inconsiderate behaviour on the Highfield Road estate.
