Police say aggravated burglaries on OAPs are linked
Detectives investigating a series of seven aggravated burglaries in Northampton have now linked the three that have taken place in the Dallington and Spencer area of the town.
The burglaries being linked are those in Dallington Haven and Spencer Haven and the most recently-reported incident at Cardigan Close.
The other burglaries in the series - at East Park Parade, Colwyn Road, Barry Road and Queens Crescent - are still under investigation but are not being linked at this stage.
Detective Inspector Stuart Hitchon, of Northampton CIU, said: "All of these aggravated burglaries have proved very distressing for the victims.
"The offences have taken place during the early hours of the morning when the victims are asleep in their homes. For the victims, who tend to be elderly, it is a very frightening experience.
"We are now in a position to link three of these burglaries and would like to hear from anyone in the Dallington and Spencer areas to come forward and tell us about any suspicious activity they may have noticed within their community in recent weeks.
"I would also like to remind householders to make sure their homes are secure at all times, day and night. Close and lock all doors and windows and don't leave valuables lying around in public view which may prove tempting to an opportunist.
"We are putting on extra night-time patrols in vulnerable areas. Officers will be providing reassurance to the affected communities, checking properties are secure and providing crime prevention advice where necessary."
Witnesses to this incident, or anyone with information, should call Northamptonshire police on 08453 700700 - alternatively, information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
