Pilots take to sky for championship challenge
High-flying thrill-seekers were taking to the skies above Northamptonshire today for the first day of the British Aerobatic Championships at Sywell.
The three-day competition will see some of the most skilful and talented pilots from the UK and Europe compete for the title.
Many well-known pilots are expected to compete, along with the current British Champion, Mark Jefferies, pictured here in his aircraft, who will be back in his Extra 300 plane to defend his title.
Michael Bletsoe-Brown, managing director of Sywell Aerodrome Ltd, said: "We are very pleased to be able to host this prestigious and important national aviation event once again and we look forward to three days of great flying. We had some great crowds last year and we hope to repeat that success again this year."
It is the eleventh time the championships have been held at Sywell. The public can watch the action free of charge on all three days, with Sunday also set aside as a reserve day in case of bad weather.
There will be opportunities at the end of each day for fans to enter the apron area by the Shackleton Hangar to get a closer look at the competing aircraft and chat to the pilots and their mechanics.
