Police are issuing a new appeal for witnesses to the armed robbery that took place at a bank in Northampton town centre this week.

The incident took place just before 5pm on Monday at Santander on Mercers Row, opposite All Saints Church.

A man threatened staff with a knife before jumping over the counter and grabbing a quantity of cash. He then ran out of the public exit.

He is described as white, 5ft 7ins with blue eyes. He was wearing grey jogging bottoms, a black woollen hat and a black scarf across his face, and was carrying a rucksack.

The suspect was seen standing around from 4pm outside the branch, near the cash machine. Northamptosnhire Police would it like to hear from anybody who thinks they may have seen him, or who used the cash machine around this time.

Witnesses, or anyone with information, can call Northamptonshire Police on 101. Alternatively, information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
