Fans queued for up to eight hours to meet singer and TV star Peter Andre at an appearance at Northampton’s Grosvenor Centre today.
Huge crowds gathered in the centre to meet the Australian, best known for the hit Mysterious Girl, on a visit to promote his new fragrances at The Perfume Shop.
Mr Andre, who was greeted with huge cheers when he emerged just before 3pm, said: “What an amazing crowd. It is so nice. It is always a surprise, it is never expected, and it is always humbling.
“It just makes you realise how supportive the British public are.
“When you get here there are 50 or 70 people and you think nobody else is going to turn up. But they all come when you arrive.
“It is really nice - thank you to everyone.”
Mr Andre is familiar with Northampton, having visited Kinsgthorpe on a school tour 17 years ago.
He said: “I was signed in Australia when I was 16, and one of the first things my manager got me to do was school tours.”
Fans Carmela Miceli, aged 45, of Duston, and Nicki Cresswell, aged 46, of Kingsthorpe, queued from 7am to meet Mr Andre.
Carmela said: “I would do this for no-one else. He is such a friendly guy. He is worth it.”
Nicki said: “I have been a fan since 1994, but it is the first time I have met him.”
Venetia Aldus, aged 54, of East Hunsbury said: “He is a lovely guy.”
Perfume Shop area manager Nicki Williamson said: “We’re excited to have him here. We’ve had a good relationship with him for five years, and he is still a very popular chap.
“It’s lovely that he has still got such a big fanbase.”
