Parade is a 'morale booster after Iraq'
The old and young packed onto Abington Street on Saturday to cheer on county soldiers both past and present.
For the men of C (Northamptonshire) Company, the 2nd Battalion, Royal Anglian Regiment, who are based in Celle, Germany, the parade was a chance for their friends and family to show their pride in their relatives, who last year spent six months in Iraq.
Pte Ashaman Richards, aged 22, from Duston, Northampton, said: "It was great, my family came to see me.
"It's been a good morale booster for us."
Proud mum Christina Jackson, from Lings, Northampton, was in the area in front of All Saints Church with her family to see son Stephen, aged 19.
She said: "I'm very proud, they're there for all of us."
L/Cpl Tom Power, aged 24, also from Lings, said: "There was a really positive reaction from the crowd."
Maj Ian Chance, officer in charge of C Company, explained one aspect of a regimental association was providing welfare to soldiers and, though the Northamptonshire Regiment Association had been disbanded, the Royal Anglian Association would continue to provide this.
