Packed concert to say goodbye to tragic Beccy

A tribute concert in memory of music-loving teenager Beccy Taylor has raised more than £6,500 for charity.

Beccy, aged 18, died in a car accident between Blisworth and Milton Malsor in September, while she was driving home from dropping her younger sister Jessica off at school.

At a gig at the Roadmender on Friday her friends and family collected thousands of pounds for Action Aid, while local bands including the New Cassettes joined forces with Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly frontman Sam Duckworth to provide the entertainment.

Beccy's brother Nick performed with his band The Sections, whose lead singer Chris Knott sang Click Click, a song written specially in her memory.

Her mother Nicole said the family, from Collingtree, had been overwhelmed by support for the concert and the 6,500 raised, which included a 500 anonymous donation.

She added: "It was Rebecca who has done this, not us. We would not have been able to do something like this without the strength she has given us, so really it was Rebecca who raised 6,500 on her own.

"Rebecca was too great for us simply to let her go without making a difference, and this will make a difference. All the bands were fantastic and so humble, and we couldn't have done this without the support of the Roadmender."

Beccy's friends helped organise the event, and contacted about a dozen bands who all volunteered their time for free.

Money raised by the event will go towards an Action Aid project to help provide clean water for children in Sierra Leone. Nearly 2,000 was raised at Beccy's funeral for Rainbows, charity which helps children and young people cope with grief.

Beccy's family has said donations are still welcome, and can be made at www.justgiving.com/beccyactionaid.
