Outstanding result is 'team effort' for Castle Primary
Pupils were spelling out their Ofsted success after becoming the only primary school in Northampton town to receive an outstanding grade.
Castle Primary School, in Semilong, invited community members and parents to join the children at a party on the last day of term to share their remarkable achievement.
An array of activities, from circus skills workshops and martial arts to body percussion demonstrations, football and rugby coaching sessions provided by the Saints and Cobblers community club, were set up for the children.
Headteacher Leigh Wolmarans said: "It has been an incredible day and there have been lots of children with smiling faces.
"We have lots of parents and community members coming to celebrate our achievement because this is just as important for them as it is for us and a big step for the town."
The school, in St George's Street, was removed from special measures in 2003 and has climbed its way to the top under Mr Wolmarans' leadership since he took over five years ago.
For the celebrations, staff ordered large, yellow badges for the pupils with the words 'I'm part of our outstanding school' and on the day, pupils posed for an aerial photograph.
Parent Beatrice Madzadzavara, whose daughter, Milliscent, 10, is a pupil, said: "The headteacher and staff have done an amazing job at the school and I am very proud for my child to attend Castle Primary.
"There's a huge sense of respect for everyone at the school."
Father-of-four Darren Scotney-Streeton, whose son Kasey, 10, and daughter Dusty, eight, attend, said: "It's been brilliant. The school had a shaky past but Mr Wolmarans has made a real difference since joining as head and his energy and enthusiasm has rubbed off onto the staff. It's been a team effort."
