The opening night of a new play at Royal & Derngate has been cancelled after the lead actor in the production fell off his bicycle and broke his finger.
To Sir, With Love was due to open at the Northampton theatre tonight starring Ansu Kabia, who plays the character of Ricky Braithwaite, an ex-RAF fighter pilot and Cambridge graduate who arrives in London in 1948 and takes up a job as a teacher at a tough East End school.
Unfortunately, Mr Kabia was knocked off his bike while on the way to rehearsals today when he was involved in a collision with a car door.
Mr Kabia is believed to have badly broken his finger and possibly torn ligaments in his hand.
Tonight’s performance of the play has been cancelled as Mr Kabia is due to have surgery on his hand.
However, Mr Kabia is aiming to be back on stage for the performance on Saturday night and be on stage for all perfromances until the show ends on September 28.
The rest of the cast are continuing rehearsals today, ready for the show to open tomorrow.
Sales staff from the theatre are directly contacting all customers with tickets for tonight’s performance of To Sir, With Love, to move their bookings to another performance wherever possible.
