Northamptonshire town sees almost 200 flytipping incidents in just under four months

Almost 60 items of furniture have been illegally flytipped in the borough of Kettering since October 2015.

A list of flytipping offences, broken down by waste category, has been released by Kettering Council for offences recorded between October 1, 2015, and January 21, 2016.

There have been a staggering 195 incidents in that time, with furniture the most frequent waste left on 59 occasions.

Mattresses have been illegally dumped 19 times, with white goods (16) and tyres (14) also high on the list.

Other items include: Commercial black bag waste (12), household black bag waste (12), chemical oil or fuel drums (two), demolition/excavation (18), green waste (11), other commercial waste (13), other household waste (18) and vehicle parts (one).

There were no incidents recorded for any flytipping of asbestos, electrical, animal carcass, clinical or unidentified items.

A Kettering Council spokesman said: “All incidents of flytipping reported to Kettering Council during this period were cleared within five working days.

“An exception to this timescale may occur if a large amount of waste is flytipped, in which case more time may be needed to search for evidence which could lead to a prosecution.

“Additionally, in some circumstances, it may be necessary to appoint a contractor to dispose of the waste if it contains noxious material such as asbestos.”
