Northampton kebab shop banned from selling until 2am

A TAKEAWAY shop in a busy Northampton street has been banned from opening until 2am at weekends.
The owners of Super Kebab, in Wellingborough Road, applied to Northampton Borough Council for permission to open until 2am on a Saturday and Sunday and until midnight the rest of the week.
The move was originally blocked by council officials and now the national planning inspector has upheld their decision.
In a report on the takeaway, planning inspector Martyn Single said he feared people who lived in New Town Road, next to the shop, would suffer noise disturbance late into the night if the shop’s hours were extended.
Discussing the Wellingborough Road area, he said: “Some disturbance has already been experienced from customers of takeaways in general, and I can appreciate New Town Road would be a convenient place to park while enjoying food bought in the area, potentially with car radios playing loud music at unsocial hours.”
The takeaway’s owners argued many other businesses in Wellingborough Road were allowed to open late.
But Mr Single said the potential disturbance caused by the kebab shop extending its hours would be damaging: “In my opinion, there is a strong case for protecting the amenity of the occupants of nearby houses, most particularly those at the rear in Bouverie Walk. They would be most affected by noise and disturbance from customers congregating for any reason in New Town Road at unsocial hours.”
The shop will now have to stick to its original opening hours of noon to 10.30pm from Sunday to Thursday and noon until 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 09:09 AMi think the council need to realise that new town road stopped being a road around 30+ years ago and the people on bouverie walk are quite used to disruption on a friday and saturday night from all the um PUBS! anyway i don't think its fair as like the shop owners say other shops have late licences like istanbul chef and as for people parking in this now unused road that has been happening since the creation of the estate,come chron and northampton council get to grip with reality!!!!
