Northampton’s snow is set to clear this evening

Snow covers Abington Park, Northampton.

Snow covers Abington Park, Northampton.

Weather forcasters have confirmed that the heaviest of Northamptonshire’s snow has now passed and the rest should clear this evening.

Mike Lewis, of Pitsford Hall Weather Station in Pitsford, said that between five and 10cm of snow fell across the county yesterday, causing some treacherous stretches on minor roads.

The latest forecast suggests that although light snow will continue to fall this morning and into the afternoon, it will become progressively patchier, with the last of it clearing this evening.

Mr Lewis said: “Everywhere should become drier by this evening and tomorrow will also be mostly dry but very cold.”

He said temperatures would be as low as 1C or 2C tomorrow and there may be some light snow showers in the afternoon.

The forecast shows sleet and snow in the late afternoon on Wednesday, which will turn to rain in the evening.

The rain is set to continue into Thursday but will then clear and temperatures of around 6C are expected.
