Northampton's new litter lout enforcers hand out £5,600 worth of penalties in first week
The two uniformed enforcement officers from the firm 3GS Environmental Solutions began patrolling the town centre a week ago today.
In their first seven days of active enforcement the officers issued 70 fixed penalty notices, although the council says it does not have a break down of figures on the type of offences, or where they took place, just yet.

Hide AdCabinet member for environment, Councillor Alan Bottwood (Con, Upton) said: “Carrying out more enforcement, with the service already provided by our Environmental Wardens, should act as a deterrent and sends a clear message that dropping litter, and that includes cigarette ends and chewing gum, will not be tolerated.
“Northampton Borough Council receives regular comments about the amount of litter and mess in the town and it is important that we all work together to address this and make Northampton town centre a more pleasant and welcoming place.”
The enforcement officer’s role also includes a remit to educate people on keeping the town centre free from litter.
In the coming months the officers will also be working with town centre businesses to make sure the area around shop fronts are kept clean.
