Northampton-born Doctor Who star Matt Smith is to star in the first of the upcoming Terminator films, it has been confirmed.
The former Northampton School for Boys pupil will play a new character with “a strong connection” to original character John Connor, alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Clarke, Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, J.K. Simmons, Dayo Okeniyi and Byung Hun Lee.
Matt is best know for his stint as the Doctor on the small screen between 2011 and 2013.
His other television credits include ‘Christopher and His Kind’, ‘Moses Jones’, and ‘The Street’.
However, his next cinema appearance will be in ‘Lost River’, directed by Ryan Gosling.
The Terminator franchise began in 1984 with Schwarzenegger as the title character and spawned three subsequent films, which have earned more than $1 billion in box offices across the world.
Paramount will distribute the latest film worldwide on July 1, 2015.
