Northampton man with a foot long beard will try for top spot in competition

Damien Knight is entering a beard competition in Brighton this weekend.

A Northampton resident will compete to be crowned the man with the biggest beard at a festival this weekend.

Damien Knight, aged 41, from Abington will take part in the British Beard and Moustache Championships in Brighton on Saturday.

The HGV driver, who has had a foot long beard for around three years, said: “I’m just going along for a laugh. I hope to get as far as I can in the competition and meet some like-minded people.”

Mr Knight, who has several piercings on his face and tribal tattoos on his arms, said has had a beard for most of his adult life.

He added: “I just thought I would grow my beard as long as I could get it. I love having it and I think it looks great.

“I get a really positive reaction and lots of comments in the street about it. With the piercings and tattoos it’s the whole image. “I have always just been myself. You can’t judge people by how they look and that’s the whole point of this.”
