Dozens of the best ballroom dancers in the country will be competing at a new dance festival in Northampton on Saturday.

The inaugral Northampton Dance Festival, which is endorsed by the British Dance Council, takes place at Royal & Derngate theatre and more than 60 couples will compete for the national league titles and trophies.

Dancers from the age of 12 through to senrios will be taking part and the judging panel is made of experts such as Bryan Allen, Robert Barley, Lorrain Kuznik and Richard Still.

The founder of organisers Step By Step Dance School, Andrzej Mialkowski, said the event would run throughout the day.

“juveniles, juniors and adults will begin their exciting dancing challenge early in the morning from 10.30am through to 5.30pm,” he said.

“Included in this section is a fabulous showcase of Step by Step Dance School’s students of all ages, the hosts and promoters of this incredible first dance festival.

“The glamorous evening gala kicks off at 6.30pm with the grand final of the Junior Strictly Champions event, where hundreds of local school children across the neighbouring counties who have been given the amazing opportunity to learn and compete in latin and ballroom dance in their schools by Step by Step Dance School, represent their regions to dance their hearts out in their bid to raise the Glitter Ball Trophy as winners for 2014!

“They will then be able to sit back and watch a dance display like they’ve never seen before, and witness the stunning National League Under 21s and Amateur Ballroom and Latin competitors.”

Tickets for the event are available from the box office on 01604 624811. Prices start at £10.

Mr Mialkowski added: “The foyer of the Derngate will give visitors, spectators and competitors alike the opportunity to browse specialist dancewear products and shoes of DC Dancewear, purchase official event T shirts and merchandise by one of our sponsors, #Hashrag, and view the treats and pampering of sponsor Fong Spa.

“Very generous sponsors have made this event possible in so many different ways, and Step by Step Dance School wish to thank each and every one of them for their support, The key sponsors Benson Associates; The Park Inn; Asda Logistic Services; DC Dancewear; Sparkle Designs; #Hasrag Wearable Hashtags; International Dance Shoes; Silverstone; Fong Spa; Amongst many others.
